Dr. Steven Goss-Turner

Steven is currently Chair of the Eastbourne Education Business Partnership, a registered charity which brokers collaborative relationships between the educational and business communities of the town and area, with a strong emphasis on increasing awareness of career opportunities and employability within young people. He is also a past President of the Eastbourne and District Chamber of Commerce.

Before an academic career at the University of Brighton (1991-2017), he worked within the hotel industry, with the then Trusthouse Forte Hotels (1975-1991), attaining the position of Training Director. He holds degrees in hotel management, human resource management and a PhD on the topic of organisational culture and labour turnover within the service sector. He is a Chartered Member of the Institute of Personnel and Development and a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy.

Until his recent retirement from the University of Brighton, he has lectured, researched and published within the subject area of human resources management and innovation in the service industries. He is the author or co-author of six books and has contributed many articles and chapters to other publications. He held senior school management positions for 16 years and served as a Governor of the University. On his retirement he was awarded a Fellowship of the School of Sport and Service Management of the University.

Steve holds a degrees in hotel management and human resource management from the Universities of Strathclyde and Portsmouth, completing a PhD at the University of Brighton on the topic of the relationship between organizational culture and labour turnover within the hospitality industry. He is the author and co-author of six books in the area of people management, including a recently published 9th edition of ‘Human Resource Management in the Hospitality Industry’. He is Head of Operations and Assistant Head of the University of Brighton’s School of Sport and Service Management.
